Congratulations Potter

One of our co-bloggers here, Andrew Potter, just made pretty big career move (details here).

Hopefully he will soon be able to:

A. Dish on all the inside doings in Ottawa and Postmedia over the past several years.

B. Blog more!

  1. That’s great news!

Now Joseph, please do that post on Chomsky so many of us were asking for some time back! It’s the beginning of the term, so you have lots of time, right? :)

    • I thought about it, but life’s too short. I stopped following his work maybe 20 years ago, so I’m not about to go see what he’s been up to since.

      • I appreciate the honesty of the reply. Two points in turn:
        1. So many of your readers were interested! Should that not count for something?
        2. We (or, at least, I) don’t need a thesis-length dissection of his entire life’s work. As someone who generally empathizes, if not agrees, with Chomsky’s arguments, I was very intrigued about your off-hand comment about how you discovered you could simply ignore him. Three or four paragraphs illuminating your thought process would do!

  2. I look forward to more blogging from Andrew Potter as well. His writing is always insightful and entertaining!

Speaking of more blogging…I really have to second Jordan’s request for a more comprehensive critique of Chomsky.

Lastly, a request of my own: your thoughts on the electoral reform debate. I know you’ve written elsewhere on this topic, but I’m curious about your take on the current debate, on the cases being made, whether to have a referendum, and so on. Thanks!

  3. Thanks guys – I’m really excited to be heading to MISC. Job 1 is to read more. Job 2 is to write more.

At some point I’m going to write something longer about journalism and the things I’ve seen (“attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion…”) but that will take a while to get together.
